Nanomaterials and Nanodevices

Rice University is often viewed as the cradle of nanoscience and nanotechnology because of the discovery of fullerenes in 1985 and the pioneering studies on carbon nanotubes by the late Professor Richard Smalley starting in the mid-1990s. A large number of SCI member faculty continue to make leading contributions in this area, creating new low-dimensional materials and devices for applications in diverse areas of science and engineering.
