Rice University is a world leader in the science and applications of photons, plasmons, and their interactions, especially in modern artificial materials. SCI member faculty in this area are creating novel types of particles and architectures that confine light to nanometer scales, which will lead to technologies in fields ranging from photovoltaics to biological and chemical sensors.
